(Wentworth, NC) – On Sunday, April 7, 2024, at around 10:09 p.m., Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 257 Sunrise Acres Rd. Stokesdale, N.C., in response to gunshots being fired. Upon their arrival, James Melvin Bean, 58, was discovered lying on the ground outside the residence. Bean had several injuries on his head, consistent with being shot by pellets from a shotgun. Bean told Deputies that the woman who shot him was still inside the residence.

As Sheriff’s Deputies approached the residence, they located Renee Lynne Koch, 63, who also lives there, sitting on the entryway doorsteps inside the open garage. Koch was taken into custody without incident. Bean was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries and is expected to survive.

Renee Lynne Koch was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill and was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under NO BOND.
