Obituary: WILLIE L. “BILL” KNIGHT

Willie L. “Bill” Knight, 92, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Richland Square in Greensboro.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Oak Level Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Knight was born on February 15, 1932 in Rockingham County to the late James Edgar Knight and Eva Mae Payne Knight Moore. Bill served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a proud member of the Midway-Monroeton VFW Post 8297. For more than eighty years, he was a faithful member of Oak Level Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, mowing his yard and traveling to the mountains.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Junior Gray Knight, Paul Joseph Knight and Gene Autry Knight; and son-in-law, Tommy Webster.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Jeanne Rumbley Knight; daughters, Sue Webster, Sondra Beene (Pete) and Regina Pegram (Rick); grandchildren, Jon Webster, Lauren Webster Harter (Brandon), Elizabeth Beene Crouch (Benjamin), Walter Harrison Beene, China Pegram (Brent Holyfield) and Tamra Schmid (Nick); great-grandchildren, Eli, Noah and Graham Harter, William, Charlotte and James Crouch, Brydon and Ryker Holyfield and Aiden Stanco; and brother, Barry Knight (Joan).

The family wishes to thank the staff of Richland Square and AuthoraCare Hospice for their loving and attentive care.
