William Bernard Wood, 87, left this earthly life to be with his Lord, on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at his home.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday October 9, 2022, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service (1 – 3 p.m.) and other times at the residence. He may also be viewed from 1 – 5 p.m., Saturday, October 8, at the funeral home.

William was born January 10, 1935, in Stokes County, to the late Bernard and Lemma Sue Mays Wood. He was a retired farmer and a member and deacon of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He also was a US Air Force veteran, and a member of the American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a great friend to many people. He will truly be missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Margie and J.R. Joyce.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Willa Von Adams Wood; sons, Michael Wood (Nicole) and Scott Wood (David); grandchildren, Suzanne Wood, Zane Wood (Clarissa), and Brandon Priddy (Teresa); great-grandchildren, Tyler Wood, Waylon Bullins, and Grant Priddy.

Special thanks is extended to his caregivers from Mountain Valley Hospice, the Veterans Administration, and especially Mary Riggs.
