Obituary: MARK SOUTHERN





























































Mark Wayne Southern, 66, died on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Gibson House Hospice.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.

Mr. Southern was born on December 27, 1958 in Guilford County to the late Gordon Coolidge Southern and Louise Gaither Southern. Mark was a former employee of Southern Finishing. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and attending Bowman Gray Stadium to cheer on Burt Myers, his favorite driver. He also enjoyed watching wrestling. Outside of his hobbies, he loved his church, family and friends. Above all, his most prized possession was his beloved granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Austin “Butch” Southern, Carl “Curly” Southern, Samuel “Sam” Southern, David “Frog” Southern and Bobby “Bob” Southern; sister, Linda “Sue” Wood; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Troy Lee and Betty Parrish and beloved dog, Chester.

Survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Rhonda Parrish Southern; son, Kevin Brim (Kristen); daughter, Heather Southern; grandchildren, Mazie Brim and Parrish Southern and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
