

Edward Lee Shelton, Sr., 92, died on Monday, May 5, 2025 at his home.
Mr. Shelton was born on June 30, 1932 in Rockingham County to the late Elbert Elisha Shelton and Carrie Maude Powell Shelton. He served his country honorably in the Unites States Coast Guard and attended Ellisboro Baptist Church. Ed dedicated his life to auto body repair, owning and operating Ed’s Body Shop in Stokesdale for many years. He will be remembered for his expertise, integrity and commitment to serving his community. Beyond his professional life, Edward was an avid golfer, spending many hours on the greens perfecting his swing. He also loved auto racing and the outdoors, with a particular fondness for the beach and camping.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Boles Shelton and siblings, Powell Shelton, Sr., James Shelton and Helen Wood.
Survivors include his children, Garry Lee Shelton (Sue), Larry Edward Shelton (Brigitte), Tony Darnell, Edward Lee Shelton, Jr. and Amanda Shelton Combs (J); twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Carrie Belle Alley, Eugene Shelton (Gwyn) and David Shelton and many extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Charlie, Donna, Luann, Shaaron and Morgan for their loving and attentive care.
