Walter Darnell Patterson, the beloved husband of Vennie Allred Patterson, departed this life on Monday morning, June 5, 2023.
As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina, he attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Madison-Mayodan High School, Class of 1976. Following 26 years of dedicated service, he retired from Johnson Controls. Spiritually, he was an ardent member of Wentworth Baptist Church where he served with the Board of Deacons, former member of the Male Chorus, Trustee Board, Mass Choir and was a Sunday School teacher. During his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and following his favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
His father, Douglas Patterson, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: beloved wife of 41 years, Vennie Allred Patterson; daughters, Martika Shadae Patterson and LaMetria Alexandra Johnson (Joseph); grandchildren, Jeremiah, Kimora, Joey and Harmony; beloved mother, Sarah Cummings Patterson; sisters, Phyllis Patterson, Sherry Patterson, Tracy Lowe (Carl), Pamela Cook (John) and Amy Lee (Tony); sisters-in-law, Virginia Reid (Gus), Louise Gladney (Don) and Robin Allred; brothers-in-law, Rev. Jesse Allred and Rev. Jerry Allred (Vanessa); other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 from the Wentworth Baptist Church, 773 NC Highway 65, Reidsville with Rev. Carlton Sturdivant presiding and Rev. Jesse Allred, the eulogist. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Public viewing will be Friday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street, Reidsville.
