(Rockingham County, NC) – On March 7th, Starting Point Rural Harm Reduction Collective (SPRHRC) submitted an RFQ to Rockingham County in order to receive funding for sterile syringe exchange programming (SSP). As of last night, May 20th, Rockingham County Commissioners unanimously agreed to pass the RFQ awarding SPRHRC $27,000.

These funds will be utilized to grow program participation in Rockingham from 13 individuals to a total of 28 individuals a month. SPRHRC will also allocate a portion of these funds to offer additional community-based narcan distributions, expand peer support services, reduce stigma through education, and provide HIV/HCV testing and treatment. Program enrollment for community members interested in services will begin June 1st. To enroll, please reach out to us via our Facebook page at Starting Point RHRC of Rockingham.

Through these program expansions, SPRHRC continues to show a strong commitment to health equity–a commitment equally shared by Rockingham County. We are deeply grateful and humbled by their support and their allocation of opioid settlement funding. We look forward to working with the county and members impacted by IV Drug Use in order to reduce harm and save lives.
