(Wentworth, NC) – The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office received a donation of $18,000 last week from First Responders of the Triad, Inc. Each year since 2019, Greensboro National Golf Club has hosted the First Responders of the Triad Pro-Am Golf Tournament to raise awareness for the local first responders’ organizations who support the Triad community in so many ways.
Proceeds from the annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament charity has raised over $120,000 for the community and area emergency responders the last four years. This year’s Pro-Am Golf Tournament was held on Oct. 17th, 2022, where a total of $36,000 was raised for charity. Half of the proceeds go to the winning PGA Professional’s choice of charity, and the other half was donated to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, which intends to use it for the purchase of a trained law enforcement K9 for its K9 Unit.
“We are so thankful for this and previous donations from First Responders of the Triad Pro-Am Golf Tournaments”, said Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page. “Last year’s donation went towards the purchase of a new K9 to replace one of our K9s that had recently retired due to age, and with this year’s donation, we plan to do the same. Since the First Responders of the Triad Pro-Am started, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and First Responding agencies all over the triad have been blessed to benefit from this yearly charity event, and we appreciate all those involved in the planning and execution of these tournaments, as well as all those who take part.”
This year’s winning PGA Professional from Winding Creek Golf Course, Jason Gentel, donated his winning share to the City of Thomasville. Their two beneficiaries were the Thomasville Police Department, which used its $9,000 contribution for the requisition of a new police vehicle, and the Thomasville Fire Department utilized the other $9,000 to obtain brand new Scott SCBA cylinders.
Past recipients of the First Responders of the Triad Pro-Am Golf Tournament charitable donations have been the Bethany Fire Department, the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., IAFF Local 2801, Monroeton Fire Department, Williamsburg Fire Department, Yanceyville Fire Department, Summerfield Fire Department, and the NC Forest Service.
“Triad area First Responders are there when we need them and it’s our pleasure holding this annual event. As we continue to grow our organization, we endeavor to provide additional financial resources in order to support their unwavering commitment to helping others in our community who face an emergency or just need a helping hand,” said Patrick Donnelly, COO and Managing-Member Byron Development and the 2022 Chairman of the 4th Annual First Responders of the Triad ProAm.
