Wentworth, NC – Rockingham County Manager Lance Metzler has been awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina’s most prestigious honors, in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the community.
The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is awarded by the Governor to individuals who have made significant contributions to the state through exemplary service and leadership. Metzler’s career in public administration spans decades, marked by his commitment to improving the lives of citizens across North Carolina.
“I’ve been in government for thirty-one years, I’ve dedicated my life to customer service,” said Metzler. “I’ve always committed myself to my family, God and my staff. A good manager can’t be a good manager without a strong staff so with the help of this group [Board of Commissioners] hired a very excellent staff so I appreciate your support and look forward to being part of this community for many years to come.”
A native of the Piedmont Triad, Metzler grew up in Montgomery County and has dedicated his professional career to public service. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban/Regional Planning from East Carolina University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Appalachian State University. Before joining Rockingham County, he served as the County Manager for Montgomery County.
Under his leadership, the Rockingham County has seen significant advancements in infrastructure, economic development, and community services. His efforts in expanding broadband access, supporting veterans through the Veterans Treatment Court program, and addressing the opioid epidemic have been widely recognized.
