Rockingham County Child Welfare Services Placed Pinwheels Drawing Awareness to Child Abuse Prevention Month

(Wentworth, NC) – On Tuesday morning, employees of Rockingham County Government joined Child Welfare Services to place pinwheels by the entrance to the Rockingham County Governmental Center. The team placed 156 blue pinwheels, each representing a child that is currently in foster care in Rockingham County. Each day the men and women in Family Services work tirelessly to ensure the safety of each child in their care, with the goal ultimately being reunification with their biological families.

The first proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month in the U.S. was signed in 1983 and was a collective effort for community partners to come together to strengthen families. Rockingham County Commissioners will recognize a proclamation declaring April 2025 Child Abuse Prevention Month at their upcoming meeting scheduled for April 7th beginning at 6:30p.m.

There also remains an immense need for foster parents in Rockingham County. If someone is interested in learning more, or would like to register for an upcoming MAPP class to prepare to become a foster parent, they should reach out to Rockingham County Health and Human Services at (336) 342-1394.
