Reidsville Woman Who Served As a Detention Officer Facing Charges Following Investigation

(Wentworth, NC) – On January 17, 2024, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Investigators, with the assistance of the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation began an investigation into an allegation that a Rockingham County Detention Officer had provided items deemed “contraband” to an inmate at the Rockingham County Jail, violating North Carolina General Statute 14-258.1(A).

The Detention Officer, NELETTA SHAMELL DAVIS-BARNETTE, 41, of Reidsville, N.C., was suspended from her duties when the allegations emerged and was terminated on March 15, 2024.

NELETTA SHAMELL DAVIS-BARNETTE has now been charged with Providing Contraband to an Inmate. She was arrested and brought before a Magistrate who released her on an unsecured bond to appear in court. This is an ongoing investigation.
