Reidsville’s Economic Development Department presented its plan for a proposed Downtown Social District during a recent public information session.
Led by Business Development Manager Chase Lemons and Economic Development Director Montanna Brown, the presentation outlined what a social district would mean for the City of Reidsville, its downtown businesses, and the community at large.
According to the proposal:
- The district would allow alcohol purchased from ABC-permitted downtown businesses to be carried and consumed within marked boundaries during set hours.
- Businesses must opt in to participate, and drinks would be required to be served in branded, non-glass containers.
- Similar social districts are already active in Eden and Madison, with over 70 across North Carolina.
City staff emphasized that this proposal is in the feedback stage and that the Reidsville City Council will vote on the matter during its July meeting.
