Winfred “Wimp” Ray Roberts, 91, left this earthly life peacefully Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds (Trellis Support) surrounded by his loving family.
A Graveside Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Boyles Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 4632 NC Hwy 66 South, King, N.C.
Wimp was born in Stokes County on September 10, 1931, to the late Nathan Abraham Roberts and Myrtha Elizabeth Cox Roberts. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired mechanic from Cloverdale Ford, Winston-Salem, with 50+ years of service. Wimp loved Bluegrass music. He played the base fiddle for the Carolina Travelers, and was a NASCAR fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Casey James; six brothers, Conard, Romie, Otis, Maryland, Jack, Belmont and a sister, Inez Bennett; and sons-in-law, Jerry Hodges and Charles “Rock” Oldham.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 60 years, Sarah Long Roberts; sons, Johnny (Kathie) Roberts and Alan (Susan) Roberts; daughters, Karel Roberts, Ann R. (Billy) Kiser, Jan R. Hodges, Terri R. Oldham, Lisa R. (Mike) Beasley; 9 grandchildren April (Bryant) James, Amy Tyler, Blake (Jamie) Marshall, Britney (Steve) Mattos, Johnny Ray Roberts, Jr., Bradley Marshall, Jessica (Clay) Gatewood, Brandon (Courtney) Roberts, and Brent (Miranda) Marshall; 12 great-grandchildren Logan, Hailey, Skylar, Alex, Gracie, J.R., Wyatt, Aidan, A.J., Hunter M. Hunter P., Ellie, Charlie, and Madelynn; and one great-great-granddaughter, Delilah.
