Winford Ray Boles, 82, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at his home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Mayodan with Reverend Torrey Easler and Reverend Randy Jessup officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home.
Mr. Boles was born on October 2, 1940 in Rockingham County to the late Claude Ray Boles and Leona Atwood Boles. Wimpy, as he was known to many, was a lifelong resident of Mayodan and retired after thirty-five years of service with Burlington Industries. He was a member of Mayodan First Baptist Church. His love of working with children was very evident, followed closely by his love of sports, especially cheering on the New York Yankees and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Anna Marie Knight; great-grandson, David Hudson Knight; brothers, Cecil Boles, J.T. Boles and Wayne Boles and sisters, Wilma Dean Boles, Jacqueline Belton, Shelby Atkins, Barbara Ann Smith and Garnette Holt.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Shirley Pulliam Boles; daughter, Wendy Boles Knight (Keith); son, Michael Winford Boles (Gale); grandchildren, David Knight (Danielle), Chelsea Knight Smith (Ethan) and Nickolas Boles; great-grandchildren, Eloise Knight and Gwendolyn Smith; brothers, Frankie Boles and Darrell Boles and sister-in-law, Lib Boles.
