William “Bill” Arnold Vernon, 78, of Stoneville passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Guilford Health Care Center in Greensboro.
Bill was born August 8, 1946 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Benjamin Arnold Vernon and Essie Shumate Vernon. He was a long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Bill was a truck driver and was known to many by his handle, “Caboose”. He enjoyed his time as a long-haul driver. Mostly, he loved his family and spending time with them.
Surviving is his loving wife, Sandy Sims Vernon of the home; sons, William Vernon (Robin) of Stoneville, Keith Vernon (Christy) of Stoneville; daughter, Tiffany V. Gammons (Chad) of Eden; sister, Betty V. Robertson; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Richmond (Ryan), Justin Vernon (Kristy), Jordan Vernon (Hannah), Chelsea Vernon, McKenzie Barrett (Fisher), Scott Gammons (Taylor), Samantha Roberts (John), Stephen Gammons (Sydney), Seth Gammons; six great-grand-children; sister-in-law, Robin Manuel (Ronnie); brother-in-law, Mark Sims (Kesha); numerous nieces and nephews; his two beloved cats, Blackie and White Foot.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Vernon and Essie Vernon.
