Obituary: WILLIAM “RAY” SPARKS

William “Ray” Sparks, 76, entered into eternal rest Friday, May 24, 2024, at Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by his family.

Ray was born June 3, 1947, in Rockingham County, to the late Blanche Throckmorton Sparks. He worked as a mechanic for Tultex Manufacturing, and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Ray enjoyed golfing, and loved Carolina basketball and Washington Redskins.

In addition to his mother, Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Sparks and Uncle Joel Throckmorton, who was a father figure.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia “Pat” Mays Sparks; son, Grayson Ray Sparks (Ellie), of Monroe; daughter, Andrea Leigh Sparks (Tarius), of Greensboro; grandchildren, Joshua, Sierra, Amber, Ellie, Emerson and Korben, and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel, Sandy Ridge, N.C.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Woltz Hospice Home for their support and Ray’s end of life care.
