William Noward Wells, Jr., the beloved husband of Phyllis Bracken Wells, departed this life on Tuesday evening, September 26, 2023. He heard the Lord God Almighty beckoning him home. The Lord spoke to him, “Well done my good and faithful servant!” William lived his life having faith in God and being of service to others.
Born on June 11, 1952, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Cheek Wells. As a native and resident of Reidsville, North Carolina, he was a graduate of Reidsville Senior High School, Class of 1970. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, May of 1974 and he also received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from North Carolina from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He was employed in the Caswell County School Systems for over 30 years. He was the Choir Director and taught a number of classes at Bartlett Yancey High School. Also, he was the Assistant Principal at Bartlett Yancey High School for a number of years. Upon his retirement, he was the Assistant Superintendent of Caswell County Schools. His romance with Phyllis Bracken Wells led to their joining in Holy Matrimony on July 29, 1978. They shared a beautiful life together for forty-five years. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour at a young age and was baptized at Zion Baptist Church where he was a faithful member for many years. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Choir Director and worked in the media department. However, God led the couple to another body of believers, and they joined Love and Faith Christian Fellowship. In this ministry, William served with Partners in Prayer as well as, the Men’s Ministry. In the community, William was considered warm and committed to any task put before him. In his quiet strength, he used in Godly wisdom as he approached the issues of life. He loved music and was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity, a member of the North Carolina A & T Alumni Band Association and a member of the Reidsville Lions Club. After retirement, he worked with the Rockingham County Board of Elections Voter Registration. William was compassionate, understanding and a great listener. He was a wonderful husband, great brother and a true friend. he embodied the spirit of love, commitment, faithful service, devotion and an unshakable desire to serve our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We shall miss him for he was truly loved and will never be forgotten.
His parents, William and Margaret Wells; sister, Edna Courts Mc Collum, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: beloved wife, Phyllis B. Wells; sisters, Marchia Wells and Rev. Dr. Laetitia Wells; brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. David Bracken (Jackie); sisters-in-law, Marion Sutton (Cornell) and Melissa Howe (Solomon); nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023 from the Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, 4344 Blackberry Road, Greensboro with Pastor John Goins presiding. The family visitation will be Friday from 12 until 12:30 p.m. at the church. Public viewing will be Thursday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Carolina A & T State University Alumni Band, 874 East Lindsay Street, Greensboro, NC 27405.
