William Glenn Montgomery, known affectionately as “Wormy”, passed away peacefully at Moses Cone Hospital on May 31, 2025. Though he would have preferred to leave this world in blazing glory, he gently transitioned to heaven.

A funeral service will be conducted 7:00 P.M. Tuesday June 3, 2025 at Citty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan Crowder officiating. The family will see friends following the service and at other times at his home. A private family memorial graveside service will be conducted at a later date, where he will be interred beside his loving wife.

Born on July 27, 1940, to Aleta Mae Ryan and John David Montgomery, Glenn was the middle child among four brothers and one sister. He is preceded in death by his siblings David, Tommy, and Donnie Montgomery. He is survived by his two children, William “Monty” Montgomery II (Angela) and Lisa Boseman (Mac), two grandchildren he raised as his own: Angela Annas (William) and Brittany Craig Chrisco (Daniel). Glenn’s two great-grandchildren, Izabella Annas and Scarlett Chrisco brought him endless smiles and kept his heart full. Additionally, Glenn is survived by two siblings, Johnny Montgomery and Joann Trimnal and had a large “adopted” family that cared for him deeply.

Glenn loved one woman his entire life, his late wife Glenda Montgomery. He knew that nothing could ever compare to the love they shared, which is why he never remarried. Being as handsome and flirty as he was, he, of course, had many little girlfriends throughout the years.

Glenn retired from Duke Energy in the late 1990s, where he earned the nickname “Wormy,” which stuck with him until the end. He had a brief stint riding bulls in the 1970s and was known for his rowdy spirit. He enjoyed playing billiards and was the American Pool League (APL) representative for Cat’s Place. A member of American Legion Post #1097 in Danville, VA, he loved to read and watch westerns on television.

He had a deep love for farming that originated from his time at a training facility in his hometown of Charlotte, NC, where the bad kids worked on a dairy farm. After relocating to Reidsville, he assisted his late best friend, Doug Stephens, on his cattle farm, dedicating many of his evenings and weekends to bailing hay, moving cows, and heading to sales. He also enjoyed spending time at Daniel’s Thrifty Mart, where he delighted in socializing with friends who stopped by.

There was one thing everyone agreed upon about Wormy: he could drink like a fish, argue like a spoiled child, and, even at 100 pounds soaking wet, he would stand up to the biggest and baddest of them all. His friends were numerous, and he was loved by every person who met him. He never met a stranger. He would give you the shirt off his back, his last dollar, or a ride anywhere he could, though he might be the first to forget to pick you up.

Witty and full of humor, Glenn always had a quick jab or a hilariously inappropriate joke to tell. He loved to shag dance, often spinning any willing participant around a dance floor. If he taught us anything, it was to drink to get drunk, carry a pocket knife at all times, and be an unapologetically colorful character.

He was a walking miracle at 84 years old, having lived through so much. Each day spent with him was a gift and a blessing. Despite the pain he endured and his longing to be reunited with loved ones in heaven, he remained full of life and love. He never let a hard life hinder him from being vibrant.

Glenn had so much love to give; he would cry with you, pray for you, and love you beyond measure. May we all strive to live a little more like Wormy—less booze but more love to give away freely.
