William Bernard Staples departed this life on Thursday afternoon, October 19, 2023.
As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina, he attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Douglas High School, Class of 1950. Following many years of laboring, he retired from the City of Eden and the Eden YMCA. Spiritually, he was an ardent member of Springfield Baptist Church where he served with the Male Chorus.
His parents, Hattie Hampton Staples and Pete Staples; beloved wives, Myrtle Lee Broadnax Staples and Alma Scales Staples; stepson, Robert Lemons; siblings, Hattie Broadnax, Elizabeth Robinson, Richard Staples, George Staples, Sarah Millner and Ann Dee Bell, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: loving daughters, Carrie Galloway (Gregory) and Ann Hairston (Rennie); step-daughters, Angela Scales and Tara Lemons; special niece, like a sister, Mary Lee Thomas; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023 from the Springfield Baptist Church, 2008 Price Road. The family visitation will be Saturday from 2 until 2:30 p.m. at the church. Public viewing will be Friday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street, Reidsville.
