Obituary: WAYNE THOMAS DRAUGHON

Wayne Thomas Draughon, 98, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Grace Fellowship at South Park with Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will follow In Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC at 2:30 PM with Military Rites. The family will see friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon, prior to the funeral, at Grace Fellowship at South Park and at other times they will be at the residence.

A native of Mt. Airy, he was a son of the late Ben E. and Clara Watson Draughon and he had lived in Reidsville since 1966. Wayne was a graduate of White Plains High School in 1943 and served in the US Navy during WWII. He was the Supervisor at the Durham branch of the American Tobacco Co. for 20 years and transferred to the Reidsville branch in 1966 where he served as Plant Superintendent until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of First Congregational Christian Church, now Grace Fellowship at South Park, where he served as a Trustee, was a member of the Baracca Sunday School Class, the Men’s Fellowship and was the Executive Director of “In His Name Christian Service” food pantry. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his wife: Ruby Andrews Draughon.

He is survived by his daughter: Wanda D. Galloway of Reidsville, his son: Wayne Thomas Draughon, Jr. of Reidsville, grandchildren: Erica Galloway Roach, Jessica D. Williamson, great grandchildren: Yazmin R. Galloway, Kiera S. Roach, Kyla N. Roach, and Lily Jones, great great grandsons: Sterling L. Holland and Brayden N. Daniel.
