Wardie Giles Hunnings, Jr. of Eden, NC passed away on Sept. 29, 2022.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and the Columbarium. Visitation will be held at 1 pm prior to the service in Moncure Hall at the church.
Mr. Hunnings was born in Newport, NC on May 27, 1929, to the late Wardie G. and Lillian Hunnings. He was graduated from N.C. State University and later from the University of N.C. Chapel Hill Executive Program. He served four years int he US Navy in Hawaii and then worked for Fieldcrest Mill of Eden for 40 years and retired as Corporate V.P. of Manufacturing. Mr. Hunnings was very active in community affairs. He was President of Meadow Greens Country Club, V.P. of Cherokee Textile Boards, Eden Rotary Club, President of Exchange Club, V.P. of Cherokee Council of Boy Scouts of America and recipient of the Silver Beaver award, Member of Jaycees, Senior Warden of The Church of the Epiphany, and on the Board of the Red Cross.
Surviving is his wife of 73 years, Barbara Hunnings of the home; son, Robert Lindsay Hunnings and his wife Karen of Piedmont, S.C.; daughter, Lynn Hunnings Fox and her husband Chris of Winston-Salem, N.C.; son, Giles Hunnings III and his wife Pam, of Eden. He is predeceased by his oldest son, David Giles Hunnings. He has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
