Mother Virginia Ethel Brown Rone, 109, the beloved mother of Idina Rone Broadnax (Herman), Lois Rone and Daisy Rone Alston (Samuel), peacefully departed this life on Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2023.
Born on January 1, 1914 in Margarettsville, North Carolina, she was the offspring of the late George Drew and Mary Brown Nunley. In 1926, Virginia moved to Reidsville, at the age of twelve, where she proudly resided for ninety-seven years. As a devoted Christian, she strived to live according to God’s Word, faithfully serving at the Elm Grove Baptist Church. She was honored by receiving the Mother of the Year for her diligence and service to the church and community. Virginia was employed by the American Tobacco Company for several years, doing seasonal work, as well as domestic work and farming. She enjoyed eating healthy food from her garden. On February 17, 2023, she was recognized by the Reidsville Senior Club during Black History Month program for being the oldest person in Rockingham County. “Grandma”, as she was affectionately known by family and close friends, was well known in the community for her loving, warm, pleasant personality. Referred as a “Virtuous Woman”, Mother Rone cared for the needs of family, community, especially those less fortunate, knowing that they should be loved and cared for because they are God’s children as well. She was a woman of noble character who worked vigorously for the Kingdom God. We thank God for impacting presence and admirable traits for us all to strive to emulate. For His Glory!
