Vera Sands Morton, 92, left this earthly life on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Reverend John Howard and Reverend John Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home of her granddaughter, Stephanie Vickers.
Mrs. Morton was born on May 24, 1930 in Stokes County to the late Charlie McKinley Sands and Biddie Taylor Sands. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and deeply loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold “Zack” Morton; son, James Michael “Mike” Morton; brothers, Jayvan Sands and Ralph Sands; sisters, Lennis Farmer and Sarah White.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Stephanie Vickers (Brad) and Jay Morton (Lila); great-grandchildren, Rebekah Vickers, Clay Vickers (Jordan), Cody Morton and Kasey Rickard (Chase); great-great-grandchildren, Brantley Woods, Kash Rickard, Layla Morton, Wes Rickard and Reid Vickers; sister, Mary Brown and numerous special nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2052 Dillard Road, Madison, NC 27025.
