On September 24th, Trudie “Temple” Tilley Shelton joined Lynwood Huston Shelton, her husband of 60 years in their heavenly home. Lynwood preceded her in death in June, 2015. Their marriage, faith, family and community provided a common bond to live a life of love, respect and laughter.

Born on January 4, 1936 to Rector and Ethel Flynt Tilley, the 9th of 10 children, she is survived by one sister Rexine Bennett of Kernersville. Temple was preceded in death by her parents and siblings JVan Tilley, Olin Tilley, Carey L “Jack” Tilley, Bobby Tilley, Kalan Tilley, Dorothy Reid, Virginia Venable, and Angela Steele.

She was well known among family, community and church as an accomplished baker. Cooking was her passion to share with others and while it made them happy to receive, she found joy in sharing her talent. The care she gave her husband, family and friends were genuine and selfless.

Temple was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She assisted with many church activities through her secretarial services. It was known that she was not a speaker as she silently provided the assistance she felt called to give.

She is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Boogie) Watson, Amanda (Bob) Pryce along with 4 grandchildren, Erica (Chris) Allen, Rebekah (Matthew) Swain, Andrew Dahmer and Ethan Dahmer. 3 step-grandchildren Terry (Autumn) Watson, Rob Pryce and Anna (Nick) Dematteis and 7 great grandchildren.

During Temple’s recent illness, she received stellar care from Jean Gann, Dorothy Chaney, Kaitlin Swann, Robin Young, Annette Tilley, LifeBrite Hospital of Danbury and Mountain Valley Hospice of Pilot Mountain.

The family will receive friends from 12 pm to 1:45 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church (4543 NC Hwy 772, Madison, NC). Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to Oak Grove Baptist Church WMU for shut ins, Oak Grove Baptist Church Carpet Fund and Mountain Valley Hospice.

Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
