Tom Tyler Compton, 87, departed this earthly life, Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Cone Health Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Born December 24, 1936, in Ridgeway, VA, Tom was retired from Bassett Furniture as a Maintenance Supervisor. He loved mowing, tinkering in the shop, relaxing with Gun Smoke and word search, and watching NASCAR. His younger days were spent with Clarence Pickurel as a mechanic for #26 modified cars. Tom was a good neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Harrison Compton and Virginia May Cobbler; stepmother, Betty Lankford Compton; two brothers, Jack Harrison Compton and David Joe Compton; sisters, Catherine Gertrude Bell, Nellie Ruth Donley, Betty Ann Horsley, and Shelby Jean Compton.

Survivors include his wife of 54 + years, Bonnie Mounts Compton; sister, Delina “Luladelle” Dale Meadows; brother, and Joseph Wayne “Joey” Compton (Tania), and stepbrother, Clay and Winfred Compton. Although Tom did not have children his own, he and Bonnie claimed many nieces and nephews like their own children, Jeff Nance (“Gail” Chaykeo), Jaime Nance (Adam); grandchildren, Kevin Hoy, Tyler and Shaelyn Nance. Also left to cherish Tom’s memory are special friends, Stan Rogers and Vanessa Stevens.

Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
