Thaxton Junior Harrison went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2024 following a two-month gradual decline in health.
Thaxton was born in Danbury, NC on December 29, 1944. He graduated from Nancy Reynolds High School where he was also a school bus driver. Thaxton lived in Stokes County his entire life. Thaxton retired from Pepsi Cola Bottling in Winston Salem, NC, where he was a diesel mechanic for 25 years. Thaxton was also a tobacco farmer. Thaxton loved his church family at Danbury Baptist Church where he was an active member.
To know Thaxton was to love him. He had a gentle spirit about him and was an honorable, kind, quiet man. He was strong, hardworking, the best secret keeper and a great listener. Thaxton was happiest when he was in the company of his family and friends, with dirt on his hands, on a tractor or with a wrench in his hand. Many would tell you that Thaxton was an “engine whisperer” because he could diagnose and fix anything. He would never tell you that you were doing something the wrong way; instead, he would say “let me show you something”. And when he said “let me show you something” he was either going to teach you how to do something or show you a better or quicker way to do what you were trying to accomplish. Thaxton loved his family and friends deeply and little kids naturally gravitated to him. He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart. And his great grandchildren brought him even more unimaginable joy.
Thaxton was preceded in death by his parents, Josie Mae Lankford Harrison and Freddie Noel Harrison and his brothers, Dannie Harrison and Gene Monroe Harrison.
Thaxton leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Allene Niten Harrison; his children – son, Greg Harrison daughter-in-law, Tammy Harrison, daughter, Pam Harrison Hooker and son-in-law, Sam Hooker; five grandchildren – Amber Harrison Koch (Logan), Harrison Hooker, Gabrielle Hooker Roach (Kade), Isabella Harrison and Alivia Harrison; four great grandchildren – Ezekiel Guerra, Alaia Dior Warren, Otto Scott Robinson Koch and Salem Scott Meredith Koch; sister, Debra Harrison Alford; brother, Mark Harrison and a host of extended family and loving nieces and nephews.
