Susan Denise Voss Gibson, 67, was called to rest on Sunday, February 5, 2023.

A visitation to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6:00-8:00PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville. She will be buried next to her mother, father, and brother, Michael Voss, per her wishes, at Mount Hermon Baptist Church in a private ceremony with her surviving family attending at a later date.

Susan’s professional discipline and passion for helping others expressed itself in her life-long nursing career. She began her nursing training at Rockingham Community College, while also balancing her role as a mother. Sometimes she even attended classes with her young son as a companion.

She worked as an emergency room Nurse for many years at Morehead Hospital. Susan was often on call and rushing to work in order to assist with emergency surgeries. Later, she earned her master’s degree in nursing from UNCG and returned to RCC as an instructor while also serving as a Hospice Nurse. Her dedication to nursing and desire to help the community never ceased. She renewed her nursing license in November of 2022, and was looking forward to returning to the field.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Ruby Voss; daughter, Stephanie Gibson; brother, Mike Voss.

She is survived by her son, Brian Gibson of Greensboro; brother, Steve Voss and wife Candice of Eden; niece, Delana Voss; nephew, Joel Voss.

The family would like to express their thanks to Johnny Ruth Collins, Evelyn Jones, Annette Beckwith, Lee Thompson, and many others who gave their time and effort to care for Susan in recent years.

Anyone who knew Susan knew of her special love and care for animals; therefore, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Camp Road, Reidsville, NC 27320, in lieu of flowers.

We celebrate the happy times, knowing her passion is not the end, but the beginning of a happy new chapter with her family, pets, friends that have gone on before her.
