Stephen Drew Wilson, 56, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
Stephen graduated from Reidsville Senior High School in 1987, where he also drove a school bus. From a young age, he loved cars, and his passion for driving remained a constant throughout his careers. He spent many years operating forklifts— or tow- motors, as he liked to call them— before becoming a warehouse supervisor for Burlington Industries. After their closing, he found a new passion in the concrete industry, driving trucks and advancing through the batching process at Central Carolina Concrete. Later, he worked alongside his sons, driving dump trucks before returning to bus driving for Rockingham County Schools.
Above all, Stephen’s world revolved around his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and Denver Broncos football, mowing his yard, and working with wood to build just about anything.
Born in Rockingham County, Stephen was the son of the late Hal Wilson and Hazel Echols Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant siblings; his aunt, Sandra Manley; his uncle, Joseph Echols; and his grandson, Sebastian Ragan.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sandra Walker Wilson; his children, Brandon Wilson, Samantha Wilson, Jackie Chaney, Wesley Wilson, and Dillon Chaney (Kristen); his grandchildren, Jayden, TJ, Cameron, Nathan, AJ, Natalie, and Nora; and his faithful canine companions, Charlie and Rocky. He is also survived by a large and loving extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham Education Foundation, 124 South Scales, Reidsville, NC 27320.
