Shirley Young Comer, 86, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 3, 2022, at North Pointe of Mayodan.
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 12th, at Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside prior to the service from 12 Noon to 1 PM.
Shirley was born July 29, 1936 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Thomas Garrett Young and Ima Purgason Young. She was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church and a retiree of Bob’s Restaurant in Madison. Shirley loved to read in her spare time and read voraciously.
She is survived by her son, Hugh Franklin Comer of Whitsett; daughter, Meliea Bowman (Johnny) of Madison; grandson, Garrett Young Bowman (Bridget); nieces, Susan Mabe and Jeanette Day and nephew, Kenneth Young Hawkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary H. Mabe and Laura Jean Hawkins.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff members of North Pointe of Mayodan and Hospice of Rockingham County for their loving care of Shirley. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Verla, who was a very special friend to Shirley.
