

On June 24, 2024 at 4:14 a.m., Shirley Williams Haizlip Friddle, 87, of Stokesdale, NC, was escorted by angels from Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC to her heavenly home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She spent her last days surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Shirley was born in Rockingham County on July 1, 1936 to the late Roy “Bill” Williams and the late Louise Williams Knight of Mayodan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wade Friddle and a son, William P. Haizlip “Billy” and infant granddaughter, Dana Michelle Manley. Shirley was also preceded in death by brothers, Bill Williams and James “Jimmy” Williams and sisters, Glenda Earnhardt, Elizabeth Tiller, Kay Thomas and Bonnie Gilbert, along with special friends, Lucille Friddle and Frankie Sharron.
Shirley is survived by seven of her eight children. Six daughters, Lisa Murray (Jimmy) of Madison, Cynthia Snyder (Danny) of Stoneville, Robin Wells (James) of Stoneville, Tammy Chilton (Norman Nance) of Mayodan, Sheila Joyner (Kenneth Tucker) of Madison and Kristie Shelton (Dwayne) of Bethany; one son, Stephen Haizlip, who lived with her the last fourteen years to give her peace, love and security and one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Cecilia Williams. Shirley’s family is blessed with eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Each family member has fond memories of Grandma Shirley. They truly know what unselfish love is because of her life. Additional survivors include her special friends, Cynthia Huff, Jane Nelson, Nannie Medley and Danny and Arlene Isley.
Shirley was a member of Maple Lawn Baptist Church in Bethany. She had many friends from many other local churches who visited her regularly. Her passion for cooking, her strong work ethic and love of reading her Bible will forever be remembered.
