Mrs. Shirley Jean Cobb Johnson, age 73, passed away Friday, November 29, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Public viewing will begin on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 12 until 6 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
The committal and interment will follow in Garrett’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Gibsonville, NC.
Shirley was born in April 15, 1951 in Rockingham County, NC to Eugene Cobb and Bessie Marie Slade Cobb.
She was educated in the Rockingham County Public Schools attending Roosevelt Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School. She later attended Rockingham Community College.
For over 41 years, she worked in the textiles industry having been employed by Cone Mills, Burlington Industry, and Tietex Interiors. She later worked in Home Health Care and was a substitute teacher for Rockingham County Schools.
She often said she was “devoted to God and saved by God Son Jesus Christ”. She was a member of High Rock Grove Church under the pastorate of Elder Mahalia Henry. She loved her family and friends, and she wanted to enjoy her life; and the freedom that Jesus Christ gave her and for others to do the same.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, George W. Slade, Fannie M. Slade, Lucy G. Cobb and Tunner Hildred Cobb; brothers, Terry Lee Cobb and Jacky Cobb.
Survivors include daughter, Vonda L. Johnson; son, Edward O. Johnson; grandchildren, Daja L. Pointer, Jerrica Herbin and Bryan Herbin; brothers, Richard Cobb, Donald E. Cobb (Felicia), Calvin E. Cobb, Gregory L. Cobb and David W. Cobb; sisters, Brenda D. Madkins and Debra A. Mack (Jimmy); a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
