Shirley Ann Slate Parrish, 78, of Summerfield, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Charity Baptist Church in Eden with Pastor Josh Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Lords House of Prayer Baptist Church in Reidsville. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Ray Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Shirley was born in Pelham, NC on February 15, 1945, to the late Willie “Hobert” and Pearlie Branch Slate. She was a member of Jim Green Memorial Church and attended Charity Baptist Church. Shirley retired from Piedmont Advantage Credit Union and later worked at the Greensboro Science Center and as a caregiver at Countryside Nursing Home. Shirley loved Jesus, her family, and friends, especially her husband, daughter, and her dog, Luci. She enjoyed the beach, mountains, the lake, dining out, drinking wine, music, dancing, and dogs. She also loved decorating for holidays, especially her favorite time of year, Christmas. She put her heart and soul into making a real difference and touching lives. Shirley was loved so much and will live in our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Robert Slate; and her sisters, Elsie Hodges and Margie Goins.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, James “Jimmy” Leo Parrish of the home; her daughter, Melia Armstrong James of Reidsville; her precious rescue dog, Luci; four nieces; one nephew; one great nephew; their families; and her best friend, Linda Townsend of Madison.
