After a long and courageous battle with dementia, Shelby J. Paschal, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston Salem. She has now found eternal rest with her Lord and Savior.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Liberty Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church beginning at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Paschal was born on April 3, 1937, in Stokes County to the late Buell Lee James and Hattie Lawson James. She was a member of Liberty Wesleyan Church and attended Mt. Bethel Church in the last years of her life. Shelby will be remembered fondly for her amazing seamstress skills. Her talent touched the lives of so many in the community. For decades, friends and neighbors trusted her skilled hands to mend, alter, and create, knowing each stitch was made with care. Her legacy of craftsmanship will be cherished by many. Shelby had a playful spark and a mischievous twinkle in her eye, always ready with a quick-witted comeback. Her mischief may have landed her in trouble now and then, but it was always in the name of laughter and joy. She had a way of lifting even the heaviest hearts, reminding us all not to take life too seriously. Though she may no longer be here to keep us on our toes, her spirited laughter and lighthearted nature will forever live on in our memories.

Surviving are her daughter, Dawn Weatherman, son-in-law, Brian Weatherman, granddaughter, Jackie Weatherman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnny Paschal, her son, Shannon Paschal, and numerous cherished brothers and sisters.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
