Sarah Jane Martin Shelton, 84, of Mayodan, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, at her home.
Sarah was born in Rockingham County on October 31, 1940, to the late James Martin and Ruby Oakley Nelson. She graduated from Stoneville High School and spent 6 months in California while her husband served in the Military. She later worked for Washington Mills. Sarah’s passion was playing the piano at Hope Church in Stoneville where she was a dedicated member and did so for 50 years. She loved her church and jokingly told her husband that he needed to quit the choir due to his singing. Sarah had a contagious laugh that everyone around her enjoyed hearing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Martin.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Fred Shelton; her brother, Jimmy Martin and wife Patsy of Burlington; sister-in-law, Judy Martin; and her special friends, Gladys Hill and Eunice and Bill Comer.
