Obituary: SARAH JANE MABE-SHELTON

Sarah Jane Mabe-Shelton, age 36 of Stoneville, NC left this world to reign over Anglin Mill Road from the sky on July 8th, 2024.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. A Celebration of Sarah’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. with Minister Curt Ashley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Sarah was born on February 2nd, 1988 in Winston-Salem, NC. She was not only the first daughter of Debra Shelton, but she was also the first of many grandchildren for Janie and Arthur Williams, of whom she cherished beyond belief.

Sarah was a force of nature; the preemie that became a larger than life personality. Even the automobile accident that paralyzed her could not diminish her spirit and determination. If she made up her mind to do something, then you couldn’t stop her. She was unfathomably brilliant, although she would prefer to describe herself as “street smart.” Her mind was a literal GPS. She knew every road and route from Anglin Mill, so you were never lost when Sarah was with you. She never hesitated to put her quick wit to use, and she could roast anyone under the sun. You could never be mad at her for long. She’d come through with something hilarious that could bring you to your knees and cry from laughter.

She was highly opinionated over anything and everything. Her heroes were her Papa Slick, Jesus, and Dale Earnhardt. She wished she could go back in time to the late ‘70s or early ‘80s, so she could marry either Robert Plant or David Lee Roth. She was the ultimate expert of the horror genre. She successfully coerced all of her cousins—as well as her Sissy—into watching some of the most terrifying films ever made. She loved Marlboro Lights, tattoos, Sun Drop, watching reality TV, posting on Facebook, and buying the most random t-shirts of all time from Amazon.

She had unconditional love for her friends and family, especially “Big Cat” Ernest T., who was the father she always wanted. She never hesitated to mention how incredibly blessed and favored she was to have the people she loved in her life. No matter how ill anyone made her, she’d end the conversation with “You know I love ya.” To know Sarah was to love her, and she will be profoundly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her father, O’Keefe Mabe (Jane), of Stuart, VA; mother, Debra Williams Shelton of Stoneville; sister, Gracie Rae Shelton of Stoneville; grandmother, Janie Wilson Williams of Sandy Ridge; step-grandfather, David “Pops Shelton” (Lenora Robertson), of Stoneville; uncles, Frank Williams (Deneen) of Sandy Ridge, Sean Williams (Shelia) of Spencer, VA, and Eddie Mabe, of Lawsonville; first-cousins, Judith Williams, Jon Williams, Mary Beth Williams; fur babies, Suzie, Charlie, Kitty, Wheezy F. Kitty; along with cherished extended family members and dear friends.

The family would like to thank CAPS Director, Caseworker Julia Gentry for her many years of support for Sarah and FNP of Western Rockingham Family Medicine, Mary Margaret Martin, for her compassionate care. Mary Margaret was always there for Sarah and the family.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Arthur Williams; her stepfather, Ernest Ray “Ernie” Shelton; her paternal grandparents, Curtis and Dorothy Rogers Mabe; step-grandmother, Rochelle Watkins Shelton; uncle, L.C. Mabe; along with her fur baby, Lucy.

Memorials may be made to Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, Attn Kaye Harris, 1095 Troy Brown Road, Sandy Ridge, N.C. 27046.
