On June 17, 1969, Samuel Edward Moore, Sr. and Brenda Laverne Scott Moore welcomed their first born, Sam Jr. “Binky” as he was affectionately called, attended Reidsville High School (class of 1987) where he was a star athlete in basketball and excelled in baseball. He received a full sports scholarship to attend Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. At Shaw University, he earned many recognitions for his talents on the baseball team and also recognition in the CIAA Conference.
Sam, Jr. received his salvation at an early age and was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church. In his youth, he participated in all of the youth organizations including the Junior Usher Board, Junior and Young Adult Choir, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Sunday School and the Young Men’s Fellowship. He also participated in the Guilford Education Missionary Baptist Association.
Sam had a quiet and humble spirit. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was not one to talk a lot, but when he spoke people took notice. He was a gentle spirit that never had a bad word to say about anyone. Sam loved to laugh, have fun and play dominoes with his friends. It was very rare not to see a smile on his face. That smile will surely be missed.
Sam is preceded in death by his loving parents, Samuel Edward Moore, Sr. and Brenda Laverne Scott Moore.
Those left to cherish precious memories are: his only sister, Marcia Moore-Lyons and brother in-law Howard “Junior” Lyons; nephew, Gabriel Lyons; niece, Erin Lyons; aunts, Ruth Davis, Jackie Scott and Tonya Evans; uncles Charles Moore, Ben Scott and Ronald Moore; and a host of cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
