Sally Elaine White, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Jacob’s Creek Nursing Home. Her loving heart and gentle spirit will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

There will be a private graveside service for the family at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery on December 13, 2023, with Rev. Torrey Easler officiating.

Elaine was born on July 30, 1939, in Mayodan to the late William Harrison Wall and the late Vallie Blanche Wall. She grew up in Mayodan and met her beloved husband, Carlton, at Elliott Duncan School. They were married for 50 years. She left school to marry Carlton and travel to many states and overseas to the Netherlands, for his USAF station assignments over a period of 20 years. Wherever Carlton was assigned, Elaine made a home of love for him and their children. After Carlton’s military retirement, they moved back to Mayodan to be near their parents. Proud accomplishments for Elaine were receiving her GED in 1981 as well as her first driver’s license. Though not a nurse by trade, she cared for both sets of parents, her husband, and many friends and community members in their time of illness. She was a dedicated community member and involved in Meals on Wheels as well as acting as a greeter and participating in the Women’s Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church of Madison. She was an avid reader and loved trips to Greensboro for lunch and shopping. She was also a skilled seamstress. You could always find Elaine out in her yard planting the current flowers for the season, of which pansies were her favorite. She loved visiting with friends and trips to see her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Christian and lived the Word she read. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 23:1-4.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, James Carlton White, Sr.; her sister, Elizabeth Wall Baughn; and her grandson, William Carlton Couch.

She is survived by her four children, Victoria White Couch (Bill) of Eden; Deborah White Taylor, of Charlotte; James Carlton White, Jr. (Julia & Family) of Beavercreek, Ohio; and Lisa Michelle Lopez of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren include Lindsey Taylor Wolfe (Brandon) of Charlotte; Logan Taylor, of Charlotte; John Anthony Lopez (Abby) of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; Stephanie Nichole Lopez of Ponte Vedra, Florida; and Ana Christina Lopez, of Orlando, FL; great grandchildren include Preston Lynne Couch, Scout James Wolfe, Rembrandt Guy Wolfe, and Eve Anabelle Lopez.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Rockingham Community Hospice at Online Memorials (blackbaud.com) .
