Ruth Morton Johnson, 92, died on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Countryside Manor.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetey with her son, Gray Johnson and grandson, Dr. Eric Johnson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. Friends may sign a register and pay their respects from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.
Mrs. Johnson was born on May 7, 1931 in Stokes County to the late Jack Morton and Ora Lee Dodson Morton. She retired from Gem-Dandy and was a lifelong member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where she was the oldest living member. While at Bethesda, Ruth enjoyed serving in various ministries, including the choir, until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Johnson and son, Frankie Johnson.
Survivors include her children, Gray Johnson (Jo Ann) of Madison and Lynn Berry of Walnut Cove; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson (Christy) of Stoneville, Dr. Eric Johnson of Shelby, Devin Rhodes of Walnut Cove and Damon Rhodes (Leslie) of Locust and great-grandchildren, Austin Bredeweg, Abbi Johnson, Ashton Johnson, Kendrick Rhodes, Emma Rhodes and Kyle Rhodes.
The family would like to thank Jeanette Mabe, the staff of Countryside Manor and AuthoraCare Hospice for their care of Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church.
