Rufus Elwood Moyer departed this life on Wednesday morning, May 31, 2023.
As a native and resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina for the majority of his life, he attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1981. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he diligently served for two and a half years and was honorably discharged. While in the Army, he received several merits of achievement including the Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and the Expert Badge. He was also an active member of the U. S. Army Reserve until 2014. Rufus worked as a brick mason for Pine Hall Brick Company, as well as various companies and IEM Plastics. He was a faithful member of Noah’s Ark Full Gospel Baptist Church where he loved his Pastor and church family dearly.
His father, Rufus Joe Moyer; beloved wife of 37 years, Mechelle Wilkerson Moyer, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: daughters, Angela Galloway (Daryl), Latisha Moyer, Taranda Moyer, Laquita Moyer, Whitney Penn (Josh), Takesha Moyer and Jessica Moyer; sons, Lamont Galloway and Brandon Moyer; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; beloved mother, Annie Lois Galloway Moyer; sisters, Barbara Aiken (Terry), Sharlene Lyons (Jimmy) and Patricia Moyer; nieces, Brittney Aiken and Tiffany Lyons; sisters-in-law, Mary Neal and Elder Karen Stubblefield (Johnny); other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023 from the Robinson Memorial United Holy Church, 521 Turner Street. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
His remains are in the care of Johnson & Sons.
