Ruby Katherine Vernon Carter, 91, entered peacefully into the arms of Jesus, Friday, December 8, 2023, at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kernersville, N.C.
Mrs. Carter was born on September 29, 1932, in Stokes County, to the late Clyde Vernon and Lonie Carter Beck. Ruby retired from Burlington Industries, Tultex Corporation, and worked at Sandy Ridge Elementary School for several years. Ruby enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers, and spending time with her family. Ruby loved dancing, sports, and was a fan of North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Harmon; son, Larry Mabe; brother, Clyde
Vernon Jr., and the father of her children, Clarence Mabe.
Those left to celebrate her life include her daughter, Sherry Hoss (Randall); son, Michael Mabe; son-in-law, Darrell Harmon; four grandchildren, Christopher Mabe (Crystal), Ashley Bullins (Chad), Shae Medzveliya (Andrey), and Kinsey Mabe (Brandon); and eight great-grandchildren who will always cherish her memory.
The family invites you to join in celebrating Ruby’s life at a graveside service that will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Merritt Family Cemetery, Lawsonville, N.C. There will be a private viewing for the family.
