Ronald Joseph Slawter, age 64, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at SECU Hospice Home in Yadkinville after several months of declining health.
Ron was born June 17, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida, the youngest child of J.W. and Betty Slawter who preceded him in death. He grew up in Walnut Cove, graduating from South Stokes High School in 1979.
Ron started his first job in 1978 at Neal Hardware while still in high school. Several other jobs followed over the years, the last being for Stokes County Public Works.
Ron loved singing and playing the guitar and “picking music” with friends and neighbors. He never met a stranger and loved to talk with anyone he met. Always a practical joker. He enjoyed going to the beach with family and friends especially to the outer banks.
He loved reading his Bible and the Lord. In his younger years, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He loved watching his daughters grow up but was totally overjoyed by his two grandsons and loved being called Pop-Pop.
Ron is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Kathy Corns Slawter; twin daughters, Kara Slawter and Jenna (Nick) Bowman; grandsons, Ethan and Isaac Bowman; brother, Wayne Slawter; sisters, Susan Rierson and Debbie (Lonnie) Jackson; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 243 N. Lee Avenue, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
