Roger M. Nance, 75, born March 6, 1949, in Rockingham County, departed this earthly life Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at home after a lengthy illness.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of Hill Top Baptist Church, and retired from Shelton Logging and Chipping. His passion was golfing (noted among his friends for his “putting” strength) and had mastered the challenging Rook card game with many trophies for his winning hand. He enjoyed gardening, sharing vegetables, especially his prize tomatoes. Roger loved to cook and many neighbors are still using cookware he sold in the 70s. Being a “Nance”, he had the gift of gab, he never met a stranger and loved talking to friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Mounts Nance; parents, Frank Meben Nance and Minnie Bell Martin Nance; several uncles and aunts.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Nance (Gail); daughter, Jaime Nance (Adam); grandchildren, Kevin Hoy, Tyler and Shaelyn Nance; sisters, Carol Sparks, Sue Bullington, Martha Durham, Linda Knight, Brenda Oakley, Patsy Collins, and Shelby Hopkins; brother John Nance; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Compton, Fahne Light, Jan Martin; brothers-in-law, Wayne Hopkins, Allen Light, Johnnie, Bob, and Ronnie Mounts, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family extends their deep appreciation to the Mountain Valley Hospice Staff for Roger’s end of life care.
