Obituary: ROBERT “SONNY” DONALD LOONEY

Robert “Sonny” Donald Looney, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the age of 92 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at True Gospel Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Smith and Pastor Mike Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Mr. Looney born in Fulton, KY on May 17, 1932 to the late William Z. Looney and Mary Francis Looney. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1954, then six years in the reserves. Sonny was a professional truck driver for fifty years and a member of True Gospel Baptist Church. He loved to watch boxing, football and basketball, and also enjoyed traveling on cruises, camping trips and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of twenty years, Nancy Lee Doss Looney and sisters, Marilyn Maxberry and Mildred Ann Price.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Daniel Looney, Jennifer Utley and Catherine Looney; step-children, Kimberly Duggins and Buddy Doss; grandchildren, Sarah Durham, Amy Robertshaw, Matthew Sawyer, Travis Sawyer; step-grandchild, Karlee Worrell; great-grandchildren Issac, Ava, Jenna, Noah, Murray and Sophia and step-great-grandchildren, Tucker, Oakley and Alley Brook
