By | Published | No Comments

Robert Gene Oakley (Bob) left for his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

He was born on March 2, 1936 in High Point to the late Willie Oakley and Vivian Sheppard. He graduated from Guildford College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister Ramona (Jim) Bryant, grandson Wesley Stone, and best friend Spencer Satterfield.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife and extraordinary caretaker, Retha Oakley, daughter Shelley (Stephen) Stone; son Terry (Darlene) Dill; daughter Kathy (Monty) Nelson; grandchildren, Luke and Blake Stone, Dalton and Ellie Nelson.

This is his story:

Dad was an honorable man with a different story to match a new day. He was a jack of many trades serving as an Air Force veteran, Police officer for the city of Greensboro, pharmaceutical sales rep and vice president at Wachovia and faithful little league baseball coach. He served as a loving father to three nonbiological children. The strength, love, and knowledge he poured into his family will forever be cherished. He will forever be our hero and the dad that he didn’t have to be.

A memorial service to honor his memory will be set at a later date.

Colonial Funeral Home in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
