Mr. Robert S. Chiles, Sr., age 90, passed away quietly on Monday, November 11, 2024 at his residence.
Mr. Chiles will lie in repose on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 1 until 4 p.m. at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 600 East Florida Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.

“Bob” as he was affectionately called was born in Charlotte, NC on October 19, 1934 to Thomas Sloan Chiles and Margaret Harris.
Bob graduated from Second Ward High School, class of 1952. He was also a proud graduate of the illustrious North Carolina Central University where he received a B.S. degree in Accounting. He perused graduate studies at Wake Forest University’s Babcock School of Management earning the MBA degree.
Bob began his professional career with the US Postal Service before joining the US Small Business Administration as a Loan Officer. Following his tenure, He was employed as Vice President of Wachovia Bank & Trust Company, and later served as Chairperson, President and CEO of Greensboro National Bank.
He later worked with the real estate firm Chiles Dunnings, Inc., and has served on numerous boards, civic groups and educational institutions.
Mr. Chiles is a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. He holds membership in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Bob was married for nearly 57 to Bernice D. Chiles who preceded him in death. Survivors include sons, Robert S. Chiles, Jr., and Reginald Chiles; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Reginald A. Chiles and Harper G. Chiles; great-grandchild, Ryan A. Chiles; sister, Dorothy Caldwell; a host of relatives and friends.
