Obituary: RICKY WINDELL SHELTON

Obituary: RICKY WINDELL SHELTON

Ricky Windell Shelton, 70, left his earthly home Saturday January 18th, 2025.

Ricky was a witty man. In his younger years he enjoyed serving on the Sandy Ridge Little League board, working in the concession stand and giving all his children’s friends a ride to and from practice. For many years he worked at The Ridge. It may have been his second job but somewhere he was able to continue serving in his community.

Ricky spent 49 years married to the love of his life, Becky. Together, they built a beautiful family and enjoyed many get togethers at their home; everyone’s favorite place to gather. In 1976, they welcomed their first child, April. Shortly after, in 1981, their family was complete with their son, Adam. Over the years their family grew leaps and bounds with seven amazing grandchildren: Meleah Gunn (Will), Taylor Plantz, Allison Shelton, Emily Shelton, Abby Plantz, Audrey Plantz, and Evie Shelton. But his favorites of all were his son in law and daughter in law, Bradley and Whitney.

He grew up in a large family of 19 children including his surviving siblings Faye Nelson (Wayne), Kathy Woods (Johnny), Nute Shelton (Connie), Roy Shelton (Janet), Barry Shelton (Donna) and J.R. Shelton.

He is preceded death by his parents, Luther and Minnie Shelton, brothers James Shelton, Richard Shelton, Victor Shelton and sisters Hessie Amos, Becky Bullins, Nancy Turner and Teresa Mabe. Infant brother Author Samuel Shelton and twin sisters Mary Jean and Magalene.

Ricky was a big jokester. He always had a sly comment or rude noise to break the ice. Even after he entered the pearly gates, his family spent a few hours trying to find the TV remote. He enjoyed watching westerns and trying to boss Becky around but he knew who the boss really was. In his memory, Ricky would want you to spend time with your family, hug them, love them hard and never want for more than you have.

The family would like express their sincerest thanks to the 4th floor at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Trellis Supportive Care, and Dr. Peter Ennever and staff.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ricky’s memory to West Side Baptist Church, 413 S. Ayersville Road, Mayodan, NC 27027
