Richard Franklin Smith, 85, of Reidsville, passed away on January 21, 2025.
Richard was born in Alamance County to the late Henry Daniel Smith, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Hopkins Smith.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and spent over three decades working for Southern Bell before retiring. He loved giving back to his community; for 11 years, he was a Cubmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, guiding and inspiring young boys. He also earned a Black Belt in karate.
His faith played a big part in his life. Richard had been a dedicated member of Baptist Temple Church since 1974, serving as a deacon, and Sunday school teacher, and contributing to numerous committees over the years. He also loved to bake, especially desserts, which were always a favorite among family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pelham Smith.
He is survived by his sons: Erik Smith and his wife Amy, and Jeremy Smith and his wife Melody; as well as his grandchildren: Keri Smith Jones (Luke), Justin Smith, Claire Smith, and Leah Lejano (Collin).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Temple Church.
