Obituary: RICHARD DEAN SMITH

Richard Dean Smith, 59, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his wife, daughters, sister and father & mother-in-law. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and son. He was born January 9, 1966 in Martinsville, VA. Adored by many, he had no shortage of friends and loved ones. He was an Army veteran, a graduate of Stoneville High School, and a college graduate with a degree in Industrial Maintenance. He was employed as a facilities director for Jones Lang LaSalle in Greensboro, NC.

He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Draper and served God fervently throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who came to know him through his witty sense of humor, his shared wisdom, and his love for Christ. His greatest accomplishments in life were becoming saved by the grace of God, becoming a father to his girls and the day he became a grandfather.

Richard is preceded in death by his grandparents, Emma Gray Smith & Clayton Smith, whom he loved dearly and with whom he spent the most time with, and Claude & LouElla Fackler.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 32 years, Dale Smith of the home, his daughters Hayley Smith Hall (Jacob ) and Emma Smith; his granddaughter Aurora Marie Hall; his sisters Stacy Crider (Artie) of Brown Summit, NC and Medra Smith of Ridgeway, VA; his father & mother in-law Wade and Dana Rorrer; brother in law Robert Rorrer (Heather); sister in-law Amy Stegall (Jimmy); special friends Darrell & Nancy Barnes and Jay & Rosiland Jones, his mother Connie Fackler and father Dean Smith. Others include many nieces and nephews, loving friends and extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Draper in Eden. Visitation with the family immediately following the service.
