Reverend Harold Floyd Waldruff of Madison, N. C. died peacefully at his home on July 7, 2024, in the company of his loving wife Jerri Brown Waldruff and his family. Harold was born January 1, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio, son of Ernest and Jennie Nord Waldruff. When America entered World War II, Harold enlisted in the Army Air Corps. When the war ended, he went to the University of Toledo on the G. I. Bill and graduated with a B. S. in pharmacy. Harold married his first wife, Betty Jean Gracemeyer, whom he met while in school. After working as a pharmacist in Virginia, he answered God’s call to the ministry and entered Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va.
He began his ministry at Madison Presbyterian Church in 1969 and served his congregation until he retired in 1991. Reverend Waldruff’s sermons were moving; he called on members to translate the words of Christ into action and to assume personal responsibility for their actions. The church and its congregation were a spiritual anchor for Reverend Waldruff, particularly after the passing of his first wife in 2000. He met his second wife, Jerri, at the church. Jerri and Harold remained active in the congregation and community. In his spare time, Harold engaged in his passion for golf. He loved the beauty of each course and the feel and flight of a well struck ball.
Reverend Waldruff is survived by his beloved wife, Jerri; his four children, Douglas Waldruff (Holly Riddle), Lynne Zeiher (William), Susan Curry (Chuck), and Paul Waldruff, and his stepsons Blair Griffin (Julie) and Robert Griffin (Karen); six grandchildren, Sloane Walker, Mara Waldruff, Ariana Waldruff, Lauren Curry, Cameron Curry, and Garrett Griffin; and three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Sara, and Weston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ancora Compassionate Care, PO Box 241, Wentworth, NC 27375 or Madison Fire Department, 107 N. Wilson Street, Madison, NC 27025.
