

Reverend Doctor James “Jim” G. Crews, 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Gibson House Hospice.
Mr. Crews was born in Rockingham County on August 25, 1937 to the late Marvin “Jack” Staples Crews and Clarreen Neville Crews. His life was a testament to his unwavering devotion to ministry and service to others. For over fifty years, he faithfully served the congregation of Woodbine Baptist Church as pastor, dating back to the early mission days of the church. In addition to his long tenure at Woodbine, he also led the congregation of Beaver Island Baptist Church for twenty-one years.
His passion for teaching was evident in his more than thirty years of service at Drewry Mason and Magna Vista High School, where he inspired and educated generations of students. He also spent a few years teaching at Dalton L. McMichael High School.
A wise man with a natural ear for music, Jim found joy in making music with his beloved family, creating cherished memories through the shared love of song. His life was one of devoted service to the Lord, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Heck Crews and siblings, Carlton Crews, Hope Crews Durham, Marvin Crews, Merle Crews Irving, Lena Frances Crews, Sue Crews Strong, Alma Dean Crews Newnam, Annie Crews McPherson, Jack Crews, Doris Crews Elliott, Norman Crews, David Crews and William “Bill” Crews.
Survivors include his daughters, Amanda Frederick (Randy), Annette Rumley (Richard) and Anita Hawkins (Randall); nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Crews Sexton (Earl); aunt, Marie Neville Blake and numerous extended family and friends.
